Serving Preschool Students with Special Needs

The Long Island City Early Childhood Center is a vibrant, community program located in Long Island City. Our students come from inner-city neighborhoods within four boroughs of New York City. The school population we serve is composed of three- to five-year-old multi-cultural and multi-lingual children with special education needs. Our classrooms utilize techniques such as structured teaching, visual communication systems, developmentally appropriate practices, and the Positive Behavior Interventions and Support [PBIS] framework. Our goal is to maximize a child’s independence by supporting their cognitive, socio-educational, emotional, and play skills.

Our Staff is comprised of a multi-cultural/multi-lingual diverse group of professionals providing education in Alternate Interim Bilingual class settings. Educational/clinical and administrative staff include: teachers, teacher assistants, school psychologist, social worker, occupational and physical therapists, intake coordinator, and nurse.
